PROGRAM

Skills for growth and empowerment

We empower individuals, particularly women and youth, through vocational training programs that promote financial independence while providing them with the skills needed to develop successful careers and improve their communities.

At A Chance for Change Foundation, we believe in empowering individuals, especially women and youth, with the skills they need to build sustainable livelihoods and break free from the cycle of poverty. Our vocational training programs are designed to foster self-reliance, economic independence, and entrepreneurial spirit. Through equipping individuals with practical, marketable skills, we help create a brighter future for both the trainees and the communities they serve.

Why It Matters

In Zambia, the lack of access to quality education and employment opportunities is a major barrier to personal and economic growth. Many young people and women, especially in rural areas, face limited job prospects and are often excluded from the formal economy. This skills gap perpetuates cycles of poverty and inequality. When we offer specialized training, we are bridging this gap and empowering participants to create their own economic opportunities.

Our Approach

We focus on providing training that is not only practical and relevant to the local context but also aligned with market needs. Our programs are designed to foster both immediate employment opportunities and long-term career growth. We offer a combination of technical skills training, entrepreneurship development, and mentorship to ensure that each participant can succeed.

Key Programs

Vocational Skills Training: We offer a variety of vocational training programs aimed at equipping individuals with practical skills that are in demand across different sectors. These programs include:

Cosmetology: Participants learn beauty and personal care skills, including hairdressing, skincare, and makeup artistry. These skills are highly marketable, with many graduates going on to work in salons, start their own businesses, or provide mobile beauty services.

Agro-Business: We provide training in sustainable farming, agro-processing, and small-scale farming management. This program helps participants to develop the skills needed to grow and market high-value crops like African Bird’s Eye Chili, ginger, and garlic.

Tailoring & Fashion Design: Participants learn garment-making, fashion design, and textile production. This program empowers individuals to start their own fashion businesses or work as skilled tailors in their communities.

Catering & Event Management: This program focuses on equipping participants with the skills needed to provide catering services for events such as weddings, parties, and corporate functions, alongside event planning and coordination.

Entrepreneurship & Business Development: A critical part of our programs is the focus on entrepreneurship. We aim to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to turn their newfound skills into viable businesses. Our training includes:

Business Start-Up Kits: With the support from our partners, some graduates receive tools and resources, such as sewing machines for tailors or catering tools for culinary entrepreneurs, to help them launch their own businesses.

Financial Literacy: We provide training in financial management, budgeting, and business planning, enabling participants to effectively manage their businesses and grow their ventures.

Mentorship: Our programs connect graduates with mentors who provide ongoing guidance, helping them overcome challenges and scale their businesses.

Partnerships for Growth

To ensure the long-term success of our programs, we collaborate with local businesses, government agencies, and international organizations. These partnerships allow us to offer high-quality training, provide mentorship, and create sustainable pathways to employment for our graduates. Through these partnerships, we also work to influence local policy, advocating for greater investment in vocational education and skills development for vulnerable populations.
